Lindsey is drawn to beautiful, wild landscapes and seascapes, as well as to more mundane subject matter.  Like a magpie attracted to shiny objects, Lindsey instead, is drawn to areas of colour, form and texture; happenstance discoveries on her regular walks to her studio and visits down to the sea. Her photo library is full of what others may walk past without a second glance.

Double yellow lines and a touch of green moss against wet grey tarmac can make her day! She also finds inspiration in the sensation of standing in a wild wind next to a roaring sea.

Lindsey segments and crops her muse, creating paintings with intriguing compositions, utilising texture and surface, light and dark, shape and form, along with strong contrasts. Working with a limited palette allows the surface to shine, without the strong influence and distraction of too much color.

Through the mixing of media and dynamic mark-making, even her 'simple' compositions convey a sense of movement. Lindsey's motivation stems from the tactile quality of materials and their unexpected combinations, alongside an inherent drive to express herself and create something fresh and original. Her artwork develops instinctively and intuitively

Lindsey continues to evolve as an artist, honing her skills and exploring her craft.

Lindsey and her artwork

Lindsey Tyson (born January 19, 1964, British) grew up in rural North Yorkshire, by the coast. Her artwork responds to her environment, especially its dramatic weather and elemental energy.

Qualifying as a textile designer in 1990, with a 1st Class BA Honours degree in Textile Design from Derby University, Lindsey has over 30 years of experience in the textile industry and latterly with her own craft business. However, she recently made the monumental decision to transition away from textiles and become a full-time painter and artist.

Last year,(2023) Lindsey earned recognition as the winner of the Women in Art, Hampstead School of Art Abstract Painting Prize, marking a significant milestone in her burgeoning career. Drawing inspiration from abstract expressionists such as Rothko, Franz Klein, Malevich, and Gustav Klimt, she embraces an intuitive approach to her work. Her philosophy revolves around remaining true to her instincts while exploring various media mixing techniques and continuously enhancing her skills.
