This one day workshop focuses on colour, and how you can use it to increase depth and contrast in your paintings. How to make an area stand out or recede.

When using the word colour, it doesn’t necessarily mean colourful and/or bright, though it can be that too.

To add depth and dynamism to your paintings, we will cover the impact of:

  • tone

  • saturation

  • contrast

  • transparency

  • colour temperature

  • complimentary colours

Whether working figuratively or abstractly, these rules apply.

In this session, our focus will be on techniques rather than creating a painting. Consider it an opportunity to expand your skill set and enrich your toolkit.

Although colour can be an overwhelming topic, in this workshop we will break it down into bitesize pieces to help understanding. As with anything, practice makes perfect.

Materials and refreshments are included. Please bring your own lunch.

This workshop is partially subsidised, as part of the new Scarborough Art Festival.

Once a place is booked, more details will be sent nearer the date of the workshop.

If you would like to put your new skillset into practice, then maybe consider taking Day 2 of Working With Colour.
